Sand has been measured here since 1967.
Versatile Group began as a partnership building sand testing equipment in Kolhapur. Six decades on it is two companies and four platforms, and the work is still the same work: telling a foundry what its sand is doing, early enough to matter.
01 The works
Everything the group sells is designed and built at one plant on the MIDC estate at Gokul Shirgaon. Around 150 people work there, across roughly 50,000 square feet, and more than twenty service engineers cover India from it.
The catalogue runs to more than 160 products, with some seven thousand spare variants behind them, because a sand lab bought in 1994 still has to be kept running. Around seven hundred approved suppliers feed the floor.
Instruments are shipped to more than nine thousand customers in over forty countries, from single-instrument laboratories to full online control on a green sand plant.
02 How it began
A partnership, then a company, then a group.
Founded as Versatile Engineers, a partnership making sand testing equipment for the foundries around Kolhapur.
Incorporated on 15 July as Versatile Equipments Pvt Ltd. The plant at B-69 MIDC Gokul Shirgaon has been the works ever since.
Two companies and four platforms: instruments and online control from Versatile, and plant data and process modelling from Sahas Labs.

A seat on the Bureau of Indian Standards committee that writes the foundry test methods.
Instrument calibration is traceable through NABL-accredited laboratories, and test sieves are traceable to CSIR-NPL. Certificates carry a QR code, so the calibration behind any instrument in the field can be checked against the record.

The group is growing, and it hires from the shop floor up.
